I Heard
1931 - Words & Music by Don Redman

Don Redman was one of the first great Jazz arrangers. A multi-talented instumentalist, Redman backed up Bessie Smith before joining Fletcher Henderson's Band in the early Twenties. Later he led McKinney's Cotton Pickers before forming his own band in the early Thirties. Redman's vocal numbers were very distinctive due to his half singing/half talking style.
